I'm the Reference & Instruction Librarian for Languages & Literature at Carleton College in Minnesota. I speak Librarian fluently and can get by pretty well speaking Geek. I know enough Techy to perform daily duties as translator between that and Librarian, though I don't know the subdialect of ServerTech very well yet. I started out becoming a literary critic before sidestepping into librarianship, so I can easily codeswitch into that subdialect of Academic. And my favorite function is that of amateur anthropologist of the communities that form around topics or social networks.
